ACUTE EXPOSURE INFORMATION

  1. Acrolein may be irritating to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. It is a severe pulmonary irritant and lacrimating agent.
  1. Skin and corneal burns may occur from direct contact with the liquid. Difficulty breathing, chest congestion, bronchospasm, as well as delayed onset of acute lung injury, and permanent lung damage may occur following acute exposure.
    1. Nausea and vomiting are common. CNS depression can occur from exposure to high concentrations. Ingestion may produce severe irritation of the mouth andagastrointestinal tract. Death may result from acute lung injury and/or respiratory failure.
  1. The strong irritant properties usually prevent more serious exposures, but fatalities have occurred.
