ACUTE EXPOSURE INFORMATION

1. Boron trifluoride is a severe ocular and pulmonary system irritant. Dermal irritation and/or burns may occur.

2. It reacts in moist air to form boric acid, hydrogen fluoride, fluoroboric acid, and other products. Thus the respiratory passage (which contains moist air) may produce these products which would be free to react with tissue.

3. SYSTEMIC EFFECTS - BORON affects the central nervous system, leading to depressed blood pressure, persistent vomiting, and diarrhea.

4. INHALATION EXPOSURE - Acute exposure to boron trifluoride gas has resulted in loss of consciousness and hypoxemia.

5. DERMAL EXPOSURE - Boron trifluoride can burn the skin, and contact with the liquid may cause frostbite. It is absorbed through the skin.
