ACUTE EXPOSURE INFORMATION

1. Rotenone is irritating to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. It is more toxic when inhaled than when ingested.

2. Signs and symptoms may include conjunctivitis followed by ulcerative keratitis, mydriasis, rhinitis, pharyngitis, and numbness of the mucous membranes. Seizures have been reported in experimental animals. Additional signs and symptoms may include hypersalivation, vomiting, partial destruction of the soft palate and anterior pillars, fatty liver changes, focal liver necrosis and neoplasms (in experimental animals), acute tubular necrosis, acidosis, and dermatitis.

3. Acute exposure has resulted in mucous membrane irritation, congestive heart failure, slow or irregular pulse, incoordination, tremors, CNS depression, and respiratory failure. Death usually occurs secondary to respiratory depression.
