ACUTE EXPOSURE INFORMATION

  1. There are no reports of systemic effects of cumene in humans. Cumene is a potential CNS and respiratory depressant. It lacks the hematotoxic effects of benzene.
  1. Cumene is moderately toxic by ingestion and mildly toxic by inhalation and skin contact. It is primarily a skin, eye, and mucous membrane irritant. Exposure to high vapor concentrations may cause dizziness, incoordination, headache, and loss of consciousness. In experimental animals, acute exposure resulted in damage to the spleen and fatty changes in the liver; subacute exposure resulted in some liver, kidney, and lung changes.
    1. Contact of the liquid with the skin causes erythema and irritation.
