ACUTE EXPOSURE INFORMATION

  1. WITH POISONING/EXPOSURE
    1. Aniline is a skin and eye irritant and a mild dermal sensitizer. It is rapidly absorbed by all routes and induces methemoglobinemia. Symptoms of methemoglobinemia include cyanosis, headache, dizziness, weakness, lethargy, loss of coordination, dyspnea, coma, and death. A Heinz-body hemolytic crisis may follow the development of methemoglobinemia by 2 to 7 days. Heart, liver, and kidney effects may be secondary to hemolysis.
      1. Additional signs and symptoms of exposure may include photophobia, visual disturbances, sluggish pupillary reaction, tinnitus, speech disturbances, anorexia, nausea, colicky pain, muscle pain, faintness, paresthesias, tremor, seizures, cardiac dysrhythmias, and heart block. Urinary signs and symptoms may include painful micturition, hemoglobinuria, methemoglobinuria, hematuria, oliguria, and renal insufficiency.
